The Indies - Five Unlikely Heroes, One Impossible Quest

posted March 13, 2010 by Jer

Hey Internet. Its me, Jer. I missed you. Its been a while huh? I guess I haven't had all that much to say lately. I got all caught up with the whole print medium. Its really satisfying for an artist to see his work all tangible on partially-recycled dead tree pulp. Its kinda discouraging, too, though. So I'm back, and I've got a new comic for you!

I've been an indie artist for a while now. I've sold told a couple jokes, started a couple stories, printed a couple books, lost a couple friends. Its been a rough road. I've done so much work and I've got so little to show for it. Its really hard to know where to go from there.

I'm not quitting. Quitting would be logical. Sure, the industry hates my kind, the folks who like my style don't know I exist, I've sunk stacks of cash into printing my work, most (not all) of my friends have left me to die and my parents don't give a fraction of a crap from half a rat's ass about my creative pursuits but I've just never been the quitting type.

I did need a bit of a break. Got some real life stuff sorted out. Now I'm back and I've got something new to show. Check it out! Yes, its finished. I left the speech bubbles blank deliberately.

So, you know how I can go on about how tough it The Indies is about artists trying to make it in a world that doesn't want them. I hope you all like it and I hope it resonates with some of you out there. If you're struggling, you're not alone.
