Splurd Goes Commercial

Cafe-Press is The Devil. They seem so tempting at first: put your artwork or logo on all these products, and sell them to your fans. All you have to do is give them the artwork, they'll even set up a store for you. The problem is the stuff is expensive, and you only make a profit if you make it even MORE expensive, and even THEN they charge a 5% commission. Countless artists are exploited by Cafe Press, and it saddens me every time.

The alternative, however is near impossible. Printing stuff with your art on it is not too expensive when you look at it "per item." A black T-shirt with single color art on the front and back costs about seven to eight dollars to make. Trouble is, you have to buy 50 at once.

Out of a mix of equal parts bravery and sheer insanity, I have begun an experiment. I ordered a bunch of T-shirts, Toys, and Bumper Stickers with Splurds on them. It is my hope that you guys out there will buy them from me. This project was expensive. However, if things go according to plan, Splurd may finally begin to support itself. The success of this project will be up to you folks out there, so I leave you with this...

Fear not the beast of capitalism when it supports an artist. This is why I don't totally despise Disney.
